In Thousand Oaks, nestled between Ventura County's Arroyo Conejo Preserve and a residential neighborhood, a hiker made a disquieting discovery earlier this week. As reported in a KTLA article, skeletal remains were found at the bottom of a ravine, igniting an ongoing investigation and leaving many with unanswered questions.
According to the Ventura County Sheriff's Office post from yesterday, a local resident stumbled upon the remains during a hike in the vicinity of Roadrunner Avenue. As authorities from the Ventura County Sheriff's Major Crimes Bureau and the Medical Examiner's Office arrived on the scene, this finding was confirmed to be of human origin. However, the level of decomposition rendered identification impossible.
The same Ventura County Sheriff's Office post reported various units participating in the investigation, including Search and Rescue (SAR) Unit, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) Unit, and the Thousand Oaks Directed Enforcement Unit (DEU) Vulnerable Population Officers. The cause of death and the circumstances that led to this unfortunate outcome remain uncertain, pending an autopsy by the Medical Examiner's Office.
