Disneyland's Space Mountain ride has closed its doors for an extended refurbishment, leaving guests perplexed during the park's bustling Halloween season. According to Fox LA, the ride is scheduled to reopen on October 25, shortly before the end of the Halloween festivities on October 31.
Although routine refurbishments are common and inevitable in theme parks, the shutdown of a highly popular attraction like Space Mountain during the busy Halloween season has proven to be particularly frustrating for Disneyland guests. Another Theme Park Tourist article reports that the ride will actually reopen on October 27, fueling further confusion among park-goers regarding the exact duration of the refurbishment and the reason behind its establishment.
It appears that Space Mountain has been grappling with a series of issues in recent months. The OC Register revealed that the ride's systems will be updated to prevent future downtime. Additionally, work on the tunnel lighting is expected, given that the majority of the blue tunnel lights were reported to be burned out as far back as July, dampening the iconic section's appeal. These repairs, while essential, have raised concerns among visitors about the seasonal experience they anticipated at Disneyland.
This renovation also means the absence of the Ghost Galaxy holiday overlay, which was confirmed not to be featured in Space Mountain this year. This loss, along with the closing of the ride, may negatively impact the Halloween experience for many excited guests. Disneyland's Halloween Time, which features attractions such as the Haunted Mansion and the Main Street Pumpkin Festival, has typically relied on a combination of both classic and seasonal elements to enchant thousands of visitors. The absence of a fan-favorite like Space Mountain might be felt by all.
