Yesterday, a tragedy struck the City of San Diego as a southbound Amtrak train collided with a man near the intersection of California Street and Grape Street, leaving him fatally injured. According to the San Diego Sheriff's Department, the incident occurred at approximately 11:07 p.m., with local law enforcement and emergency responders arriving swiftly on the scene.
Despite valiant efforts by first responders to save the man's life, he succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a local hospital. The identity of the victim, along with the official cause and manner of death, will be determined by the Medical Examiner's Office once they notify the family of the unfortunate event.
The investigation into this heartbreaking incident is currently being led by the Sheriff's Transit Enforcement Unit (TEU), as they are responsible for handling matters along the North County Transit District's routes, which the southbound Amtrak train was using.
