On September 23, communities around the world will band together for National River Cleanup Day, an international day of action designed to combat water pollution and protect our creeks, rivers, and wildlife from trash and debris.

The City of Cupertino, for example, will be hosting a community creek cleanup on September 23, from 9 a.m. to noon at Regnart Creek. This event encourages local residents to make a tangible difference for their environment by volunteering their time to remove litter and debris from this precious waterway according to a tweet from the City of Cupertino.

Participants are required to register in advance and sign a waiver in order to contribute their efforts to this important cause, as stated in an Eventbrite post. Minors are welcome, but must be accompanied by an adult. Cleanup supplies including gloves, bags and other necessary items, will be provided on-site.

Coastal Cleanup Day, which coincides with National River Cleanup Day, has seen extraordinary success in the past. As shared by Clean A Creek, in 2021, the Ocean Conservancy reported that over 318,000 volunteers removed more than 5,595,000 million pounds of trash from beaches and waterways around the world. This global community effort plays a crucial role in preserving our natural habitats and ecosystems for generations to come.
