
The Housing Authority of the City of Alameda (AHA) has recently opened applications for studio apartments at Poppy Place, a renovated complex at 1628 Webster St., West Alameda. The Alameda Post reports the application period began on Monday, October 2, and will end on Sunday, October 22, at 8 p.m.
The studio apartments at Poppy Place, formerly Hawthorn Suites, are designed to accommodate one or two individuals, including a bathroom and kitchenette, according to an article from the Alameda Housing Authority. The units range from 370 to 400 square feet, with rents from $518 to $1,554 per month, utilities included, based on income. Additional amenities like an onsite laundry facility, community room and patio, limited parking, secure bike storage, an elevator, pet-friendly units, resident services, and an onsite Property Manager are offered as well.
Applicants to Poppy Place must meet income restrictions with provisions for households earning up to 60% of the Area Median Income (AMI), the Alameda Post. A one-person household's 20% AMI limit is $20,720, while for a two-person household, it's $23,680. In contrast, the 60% AMI limit for a one-person household is $62,160, and $71,040 for a two-person household.
The Alameda Housing Authority's website emphasizes Poppy Place's location within walking distance of grocery stores, retail outlets, employers, and schools. Move-ins are expected to begin in January 2024. Applications can be submitted to the Alameda County Housing Portal during the application period.
