Earlier today, a vehicle theft in Redwood City was thwarted due to actions taken by an alert local resident, combined with prompt response and cooperation amongst various law enforcement agencies. Local police received multiple reports of gunshots in the vicinity of Sanchez Way and Oak Avenue. The investigation that followed led to the apprehension of a suspect and the recovery of a stolen vehicle, as mentioned in a press release by the Redwood City Police Department.
Officers discovered the suspicious vehicles, identified as a dark-colored Charger and a black Chevrolet Corvette, near Woodside Road and Broadway. Assisted by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, and Atherton Police Department, officers established a perimeter to corner the suspects after the Corvette crashed into a street sign at the southbound HWY 101 off-ramp at Woodside Road, with the driver fleeing the scene. Unfortunately, the Charger escaped the area.
The Atherton Police Department deployed a drone carrying infrared technology to pinpoint the exact location of the running suspect hidden in the bushes. This advanced technology helped in deploying a K9 for a comprehensive ground search, leading to the successful apprehension of the suspect, identified as Alex Stuart Cisneros-Mencos. Authorities confirmed that the stolen Corvette originated from San Jose, CA.
Officers concluded that a proactive resident with a concealed carry weapons (CCW) permit was alerted by unusual noises from the street outside their home. On spotting the Charger and Corvette along with six individuals believed to be accomplices, and hearing potential gunshots, the resident fired a warning shot toward the ground, which resulted in the suspects fleeing the scene in their vehicles.
The investigation is still ongoing, the apprehension of Cisneros-Mencos signifies a significant breakthrough towards solving the case along with the recovery of the stolen vehicle.
