Yesterday, a 22-foot Striper sport fishing boat capsized about 1.5 miles off Oceanside Harbor. The four passengers aboard were thrown into the ocean, but thanks to the swift efforts of rescue teams, all four individuals were successfully rescued. Authorities highlighted the critical role of life jackets in this incident.

Once aware that water was rapidly filling their boat, the passengers called 911 for help around 11 a.m., per Fox 5 San Diego accounts. The Oceanside Fire Department and Lifeguard crews promptly rushed to the grounds, the urgency increasing as the boat capsized, and the passengers ended up in the water.

Only two out of the stranded individuals had flotation devices with them. The first lifeguard to arrive at the scene on a personal watercraft was able to secure all four victims until the Oceanside Fire and Lifeguard Marine Safety Unit (MSU) arrived. Subsequent to their rescue, all the victims were examined and were found to be uninjured.

Following the effective rescue operation, the overturned boat was handed over for rescue to TowBoat U.S. Support was provided by multiple other organizations, including the U.S. Coast Guard, San Diego County Sheriff ASTREA helicopter unit, and the Camp Pendleton Fire Department.

In the aftermath of this event, the Oceanside Fire Department urged boaters to always use life jackets. As required by current state law, each person on a vessel must possess a life jacket. It is mandatory for children under the age of thirteen to wear them.

The incident once again validated the mantra voiced in NBC San Diego's coverage of the event, which was that "Life jackets save lives."
