An autistic 10-year-old boy from Methuen, Massachusetts, suffered alleged emotional and physical abuse from two bus employees. Noticing his son's altered behavior related to taking the school bus, the father reported his concerns, leading to an investigation into the incidents. This marked the beginning of a case that resulted in the arrest and prosecution of the two employees, according to Boston 25 News.
The boy's parents first raised their concerns in early October 2023, to quickly have the Methuen Public Schools launched an investigation. The police examined unsettling video evidence, revealing the alleged misconduct. As a result, the two employees from the NRT Bus service faced criminal charges and their subsequent dismissal.
Brandi Kwong, Methuen Public Schools Superintendent, released a letter responding to the understandable concerns of parents about the safety of children's transportation. In the letter, Kwong committed to communicate with the victim’s family, cooperate with law enforcement, and work with the Department of Child and Families and NRT Bus. NRT Bus also announced their unwillingness to tolerate the accused behavior and to fully cooperate with the authorities, as reported by WHDH.
