Yesterday, a vehicle crashed into a multi-family residence on the 2200 block of California Street, Mountain View. According to the City of Mountain View report, the collision caused significant structural and water damage.
The Mountain View Fire Department immediately responded and evacuated residents safely, also acting swiftly to halt further damage. As noted, fire crews stopped the water flow within minutes, averting the spread of over 1,000 gallons of water within the complex.
An adult male was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was later detained under suspicion of drunk driving. The complex, housing more than 200 residents and comprising 88 units, now struggles with material losses and a sudden loss in the residents' feeling of safety.
Reacting quickly, building management started implementing temporary accommodations, distributing bottled water, and initiating damage control.
Mountain View Police Department Public Information Officer Katie Nelson estimates damages to the building and water supply to be around $105,000.
