Former attorney Sean O'Donovan was convicted this Friday, October 27, on charges of attempting to bribe the Chief of Police in Medford, Massachusetts, to influence the approval of a client's recreational marijuana proposal. O'Donovan's charges include two counts of honest services wire fraud and one count of bribery concerning programs receiving federal funds the Department of Justice reported.

Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua S. Levy praised the integrity of Medford Police Chief Jack Buckley and his brother who assisted in exposing O'Donovan's plan. Buckley immediately alerted federal authorities upon learning of the bribery attempt as stated in the report.

O'Donovan tried to exploit his insider status to manipulate the system through a pay-to-play scheme. The former attorney offered $25,000 to a relative of Police Chief Buckley to favorably rank his client's application.  O'Donovan's sentenced  is scheduled fon February 7, 2024.
