Yesterday evening, the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) launched a daring cliff rescue mission in San Pedro. According to the LAFD ALERT, the rescue took place at 3740 S Meyler Street near Wilders Addition Park northwest of Point Fermin.
Under challenging conditions, the LAFD team began their rescue operation. Unable to progress on foot due to the unstable landscape, they turned to three LAFD fireboats for support. Soon after, rescue helicopters arrived to assist and in their work to recover a vehicle that had fallen off the cliff into the water.
A subsequent LAFD ALERT reported it was there determination and persistence that led the divers to discovering, the heavily damaged vehicle. It was lodged between large rocks along the rugged shoreline.
Unfortunately, the divers discovered a deceased adult male inside the vehicle. A final LAFD ALERT confirmed that no other victims were present in the vehicle or surrounding area. The rescue divers cooperated with Medical Examiner's staff for the decedent's recovery.
