In an effort to enhance road safety, the Dumbarton Bridge (SR-84) connecting San Mateo County's Menlo Park and Fremont in Alameda County is set for repaving works. The project will see the closure of the bridge's eastbound lanes on four weeknights starting from October 31 through November 3, per a Facebook post by Caltrans.
Expected to take place from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m each night, these closures are set to result in detours for individuals traveling from San Francisco, San Mateo, and the South Bay to the East Bay. Westbound lanes, nonetheless, will remain open during the repaving operation.
For those journeying to the East Bay from San Francisco and San Mateo, the recommended detour is via the San Mateo Bridge (SR-92), which connects the cities of San Mateo and Hayward. Conversely, South Bay road users headed towards Milpitas or Fremont can use Calaveras Boulevard (SR-237) as an alternate route.
Despite the temporary disruption, this project is aimed at guaranteeing the bridge's structural health, thereby ensuring a safe and reliable commute for travelers in the long term. Acknowledging the potential inconvenience this project may pose to the locals, Caltrans has expressed its appreciation for their patience and understanding during the execution of this job.
