The Hollenbeck community of Los Angeles has witnessed a violent clash between Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) personnel and protest participants last Sunday, October 1. A public gathering advocating tenants' rights escalated into a ruckus, leading to an arrest and injuries to seven officers, as documented by the LAPD Newsroom.
During the unrest, Gustavo Otzoy, a suspect involved in the brawl, managed to snatch personal and departmental belongings from an officer to famously evade arrest. His arrest took place subsequent to the incident on October 3, 2023, as brought to light by the LAPD Newsroom. Otzoy, aged 57, was charged with robbery and his bail was settled at $50,000.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office charged Otzoy with one felony count of Resisting Arrest yesterday. With Otzoy still behind bars, it is emphasized that the LAPD plans to run additional probes into associated crimes, hinting at subsequent escalations.
