An individual from Lake Forest, Orange County won over $1 million in a recent Powerball draw after their ticket matched five of the requisite six numbers. These numbers failed to produce a jackpot winner, subsequently raising the total sum to $1.55 billion. This information was released via CBS News.
The winning million-dollar ticket, sold at a 7-Eleven store in Lake Forest Drive, wasn't the only one to cease large rewards. Across the United States, four more tickets, sold in Indiana, Oregon, Virginia, and Florida respectively. The latter including a lucky player opting for the "Power Play" choice, thereby winning $2 million, as stated by Fox LA.
Growing at an impressive rate, the upcoming Wednesday's draw holds a potential jackpot of an estimated $1.73 billion. If won, this would be the second-largest in U.S. lottery history. Annuity or a single cash payment of $756.6 million are–the options presented to the potential winner, according to KTLA.
The fact that jackpot-winning tickets are rarely sold is due to the Powerball's exceedingly slim victory chances – a 1 in 292.2 million probability. So far, the largest jackpot, a hefty sum of $2.04 billion, was claimed in November 2022 by player hailing from California, KTLA reported.
Contrary to the jackpot drought that has persisted for 35 consecutive draws since July 19, enthusiasm surrounding the lottery remains high. The record is 41 consecutive draws without a winner, set between 2021 and 2022. As Wednesday's draw nears, players await with bated breath, looking forward to the announcement of the next millionaire.
