Long Beach is preparing for the 39th annual Long Beach Marathon this weekend, with a press release from the city government highlighting an abundance of street closures and potential traffic delays. Residents and visitors are urged to plan ahead for smoother commuting.
The marathon, taking place from October 13 to 15, will prompt disruptions across the city. With major road closures and detours commencing between 5 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, to quickly navigate the city, individuals should plan routes and allot extra travel time.
The streets impacted include Eastbound Shoreline Drive, Westbound Shoreline Drive, Pine Avenue, along with numerous others. The city expects to fully reopen all roads by 2 p.m. on Sunday.
In addition to closures, street parking will also to impact. Streets along the racecourse will display "no parking" signs, with disobedience possibly leading to ticketing and towing at owners' expense. Local authorities will transfer towed vehicles to the tow yard at 3111 E. Willow St.
Neighborhoods likely impacted include Belmont Shore, the Peninsula, Naples, Belmont Heights, and several others. The city has conveniently provided a map and details for entering and exiting these neighborhoods.
To ease parking issues, free parking on Saturday night through Sunday is being provided in beach lots along Ocean Boulevard for Belmont Shore, Peninsula, and Naples residents. Boat owners can still access parking at Marina Green on Saturday via Shoreline Village Drive, and at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center on Sunday, through Pine Avenue.
