A significant milestone was reached for women's sports in Massachusetts with the announcement by the LPGA Tour, to play host to the FM Global Championship at TPC Boston in Norton from August 29 to September 1, 2024. Professional women's golf returns to the New England area following a hiatus of more than 20 years, aligning with the launch of new franchises for the Professional Women’s Hockey League and the National Women’s Soccer League in Boston.

The event's unveiling took place at Fenway Park, with the blessing of Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey. She observes the LPGA's arrival as impeccably timed, given golf's $2 billion direct and $1.5 billion indirect economic contribution, in addition to the intensifying interest in golf tourism.

Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan of the LPGA disclosed in a public statement as stated in Boston AP that the decision to return to New England was influenced by the progressive atmosphere created in the region. She articulated her excitement over the LPGA being part of an "incredible movement" dedicated to inspiring, empowering, and developing aspirant young women in and out the golf course. Featuring the tour's largest purse outside of the majors and tour championship, the 2024 FM Global Championship also stands in testimony to the LPGA's objective of expanding its national reach.
