A hit-and-run traffic incident in Riverside County has resulted in the arrest of 26-year-old Edgar Torres Velador. Velador, a Moreno Valley resident, is accused of causing a fatal collision last week, on October 21, with his Nissan Pathfinder into a 2020 Honda Fit at the intersection of Evans Road and Whispering Wood Lane in Perris, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.
The Honda Fit driver, stopped at a stop sign and preparing for a southbound turn onto Evans Road, was fatally injured when Velador's northbound Nissan ignored its stop sign and caused the collision, as per an earlier Hoodline report.
Velador allegedly abandoned his damaged vehicle on Evans Road and escaped on foot after the accident. Meanwhile, the Honda Fit driver was declared dead on the scene by the Cal-Fire personnel. The authorities withheld the identity of the victim until they could notify the next-of-kin, and a temporary road closure was installed for evidence collection and site processing, as stated by the Riverside County Sheriff's Office.
Following an anonymous tip on Wednesday, October 25, indicating Velador's location, a joint operation by deputies with Perris Traffic Team and Moreno Valley Sheriff culminated in his arrest. He will face charges of vehicular manslaughter, hit and run resulting in injury or death, and driving on a suspended license. His bail amounts to $500,000, as per the Riverside County Sheriff's Office update.
The authorities are seeking additional information to fully investigate the circumstances of the accident, and urge anyone with relevant details to contact Deputy Jess Kiebach at the Perris Sheriff's Station at 951–210–1000, or the Riverside County Sheriff's Office at 951–776–1099.
