The month of October marks the onset of flu season. Influenza, a contagious respiratory ailment, can lead to severe health issues and in the worst cases, fatality. While it's a year-round disease, infection rates typically surge during the fall and winter months. Its peak generally falls between December and February, extending at times until May. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advocates annual flu vaccines for everyone above six months as the best form of protection, per the County News Center.

To promote easier flu prevention access, San Diego County has planned four free flu vaccination events for this year. The first event occurred on October 11 at the new Southeastern Live Well Center, witnessing a steady inflow of participants.
Apart from these events, residents have the option of getting vaccinated at any of the six Public Health Centers, local pharmacies, or from their primary care providers, as mentioned in the San Diego County website. The schedule for the rest of the vaccine events is as follows:
- North Central Health Center at Mission Valley Library on October 24th from 12 pm to 4 pm
- South Public Health Center at Northgate Market #27 on October 26th from 1 pm to quickly 4 pm
- East Public Health Center at the Magnolia Room on November 6th from 11 am to 3 pm
These vaccination events aim to keep the community healthy and flu-free during the flu season. Bear in mind that flu season may last till May, emphasizing the importance of early vaccination against the influenza virus.
