Earlier today, a severe head-on collision temporarily closed Interstate 495 in Chelmsford, Massachusetts. According to NBC Boston, the accident occurred around 9:47 a.m. near Exit 87 on the northbound side, resulting in one serious injury. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation reported that I-495 north was closed at Exit 83, and the southbound side at Exit 88 initially, though all lanes were reopened by 12:45 p.m.
A vehicle traveling southbound inexplicably crossed over to northbound lanes, causing the crash. CBS News Boston also reported that alongside the temporary interstate closures, a medical helicopter was summoned to airlift the individual needing urgent treatment. The current condition of the injured party is yet, to be updated.
Following the accident, debris and wreckage littered the highway. According to The Boston Globe, traffic flow resumed normally once the scene was cleared, relieving the traffic caused by the accident.
