Yesterday, two separate incidents involving stolen vehicles took place, resulting in arrests. Officers found a stolen car with a man asleep at the wheel on Evans Road near Daniel Court. Despite initially refusing to follow officers' commands to leave the vehicle, the man was ultimately detained without further incident, according to the Milpitas Police Department.
Around 3 a.m., automated license plate readers (ALPR) alerted midnight shift officers to a stolen truck on Piedmont Road. The vehicle was in the possession of a 33-year-old Oakland resident, who was subsequently arrested for possession of stolen property, illicit drugs, and a BB gun. A second suspect attempting to siphon gas from another vehicle managed to escape the scene despite residents' alerts to law enforcement.
In response to the rising issue of vehicle theft, efficient tools like ALPR are being embraced for early detection and quick resolution of such incidences.
