Ted Stevens has been appointed as the new Parks, Recreation, and Community Services (PRCS) Director for Culver City, starting on November 6, following the retirement of current PRCS Director Armando Abrego. Stevens brings with him a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to promoting community growth and well-being, according to the official city website.
Upon being selected for this important role, Stevens stated, "I am honored to begin this exciting journey as the new Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Director in this incredible city. I look forward to working with this dynamic team of professionals and contributing towards making Culver City an even greater place to live, work, and play," as reported by Culver City Crossroads.
Having previously served as the Recreation Superintendent for the City of Long Beach's Community Recreation Services Department, Stevens is in a position to seamlessly transition into his new role. He managed full-time supervisors and up to 250 part-time employees—experience that Culver City will surely benefit from.
Stevens' expertise spans across citywide programs, including adult and youth sports, beach and sports field permits, adaptive recreation programs, and managing community centers, as per the city's official website. His experience fostering relationships with local community groups and non-profit organizations will serve as an asset in his new role.
One of the key projects Stevens will be tackling as PRCS Director is the Bill Botts Fields and Veterans Memorial Park Feasibility Study, a visioning project to determine the future needs of these parks as discussed in a Culver City Crossroads article. Mr. Stevens' past experience in managing such initiatives will prepare him well for this project.
Culver City, located in the heart of the Westside, is a vibrant urban community known for its high-tech industries, excellent public schools, and familial charm. Boasting a population of 40,779 residents, the city is notable for its downtown area, with bustling restaurants, live theater, and art galleries, according to the city's official website.
