
On Tuesday, 40-year-old Nicholas O'Neil was sentenced to five years in prison over a bank robbery incident that occurred in September 2020 in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. This information is made available by the United States Department of Justice. O'Neil is expected to serve three years of supervised release after his prison term ends.
The incident unfolded on September 22, 2020, when O'Neil, armed with a demand note and a red cloth bag, entered a branch of Santander Bank in Tewksbury. He subsequently pled guilty to one count of bank robbery in February 2023.
To quickly apprehend O'Neil, a vigilant bank customer who witnessed the robbery made the bold decision to follow him as he fled in a white pickup truck. After documenting their observations, this citizen reported the incident to the police, which led to O'Neil's subsequent capture.
