Last Tuesday, Lafayette law enforcement arrested three individuals within a five-hour span in an impressive demonstration of their commitment to public safety.
The first arrest came on October 24, when a Lafayette Police Department sergeant spotted a motorcyclist performing a wheelie on Mt. Diablo Blvd. Despite the sergeant trying to initiate a traffic stop, the motorcyclist continued, triggering a brief pursuit that finished on eastbound Highway 24. The collaboration of the California Highway Patrol and Concord Police Department led to the suspect's apprehension in Concord. The suspect was subsequently charged with felony evading and transferred to the Martinez Detention Facility, per the Lafayette Police Department (LPD).
At the same time, officers were responding to a shoplifting incident in downtown Lafayette. Quickly on the scene, officers located the suspect walking on Oak Hill Road, holding stolen items. Further investigation revealed the suspect was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon. The suspect was then arrested for parole violation and shoplifting and taken to the Martinez Detention Facility with a parole hold placed by the parole officer.
Around the end of the shift, an officer noticed a white Nissan Altima exiting an apartment complex on the 1000 block of 2nd St. The officer recognized the car as being connected to two car theft cases, as reported by LPD. The officer had previously arrested an occupant of the car on separate charges, including illegal firearm possession. After making contact with the current driver and finding stolen mail and identity theft materials, the officer arrested them for probation violation and had the car towed.
