Over the past weekend, several incidents related to dangerous driving and illegal activity were reported, highlighting renewed concerns over public safety.
According to the WEEKEND RECAP report by SBPD, the incidents include several DUI collisions and arrests. In one circumstance, a 19-year-old Union City resident was apprehended for carrying a concealed, unregistered firearm. In another, a 30-year-old San Mateo resident was arrested for both DUI and child endangerment following a high-speed chase on Highway 101, with speeds reaching beyond 100 MPH.
With respect to gun ownership, an article from the Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund states that gun violence causes 36,000 deaths in the US annually in addition to an estimated 73,000 nonfatal injuries. These alarming figures require attention and prompt a serious discussion on responsible gun ownership.
