Austin real estate investor Nate Paul has pleaded not guilty to four additional federal wire fraud charges. Previously indicted on eight counts of making false statements to lending institutions, these new charges further complicate the situation.

KXAN reported on Thursday that Paul, who is at the helm of the multibillion-dollar World Class Holdings, is embroiled in fraud allegations. He apparently sent false statements to partners in limited partnerships. The allegations include misrepresentation of partnership bank balances, downplaying partnership debts, and illicitly using company money for other businesses. If found guilty on these charges, he could face up to 20 years in prison and pay a $250,000 fine for each count.

In quick concession to these new charges, Paul pleaded not guilty to the original eight federal counts in June. These accusations could lead him to face up to 30 years in prison and a $1 million fine per count if convicted. As indicated by Austin Business Journal, these accusations accuse Paul of deceiving lenders to secure $172 million in loans.

The circumstances surrounding Paul initially resulted in a trial scheduled for July 2024, but the addition of more charges has clouded the timeline. As the Austin Business Journal reported, U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark Lane approved Paul's request for an in-person arraignment waiver, adding a new dimension to the overall proceedings.
