Inside the lobby of the Westborough Police Department on Sunday night, firefighters rushed to tackle a report of a fire inside the lobby of a law enforcement building in Westborough, Massachusetts. According to NBC Boston, the blaze that required the officers to evacuate was reported around 8:20 p.m. at the station on 45 West Main Street.
Upon arrival, they found a spectacle of smoke and a smoldering fire that set off the sprinkler system within the building. A sweep ensued that included K9 units and police drones. It didn't take long for the authorities to take one individual into custody, as reported by Boston 25 News.
The inferno was swiftly subdued without recording any injuries. Officials assured that the policing operations were not affected. "Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and ventilated the building," as mentioned by the city's fire and police chiefs.
Westborough's Fire Chief tallied the damage at a weighty $250,000, mostly due to the large amount of water from the sprinkler system, as per NBC Boston and WCVB.
The investigation heats up, much like the embers of Sunday night, as it stretches its arms to include the Westborough Fire Department, Westborough Police Department, State Fire Marshal's Office, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, according to WCVB.
