In an intense late-night drama, a suspect's attempt to flee from police turned into a pursuit ending with K9 intervention and a hospital trip in LA's Rampart area. According to details recently released by the LAPD Newsroom, the chase began after midnight when officers spotted two men standing suspiciously by a double-parked car.
As cops approached the scene on Bonnie Brae Street and Court Street, one man, later identified as Jackson Romero, ran away clutching a dark satchel that he was wearing across his chest. Due to his actions, the officers suspected the satchel could conceal a weapon. Romero discarded the bag and officers momentarily lost sight of him.
A perimeter was promptly established by the officers in the vicinity, swiftly leading to the recovery of the thrown satchel containing a loaded, blue steel semi-automatic 9mm handgun. With the second man in the wind, Metropolitan Division K9 officers were called in to assist and their four-legged partner didn't take long to sniff out Romero from his hideout in the backyard of a residence.
Following the ordeal that included a "K9 contact", Romero was transported by emergency services to hospital to treat non-life-threatening injuries incurred, per LAPD Newsroom.
