Yesterday morning, an unexpected theft was unearthed at a Polo Ralph Lauren store when a routine traffic stop played a key part in apprehending the suspects. This event came to be known widely as a result of the initial report by the City of Carlsbad Police Department.
During a routine traffic interception, Officer Guerra stopped a black Mercedes. Inside were three occupants - two females and a male - dressed in brand new Polo Ralph Lauren outfits and a bag full of merchandise in the vicinity. As the chatter ensued, a theft report from a nearby Polo Ralph Lauren store dropped in, aligning the descriptions of the suspects and car with those at the traffic stop.
Further investigations were conducted, with Officers Noa, Wallag, and Vela obtaining video footage from the Polo Ralph Lauren store. The findings validated Officer Guerra's suspicions - the individuals in the car were the perpetrators of the theft. Interestingly, the car's license plate number also matched that in the theft report.
On a thorough search of the individuals, their belongings, and the vehicle, a collection of items linked to the crime was found. These encompassed removing alarm sensors, driver's licenses, controlled substances, and approximately $1,300 worth of merchandise with price tags and sensors intact. This routine traffic stop had morphed to be the key moment in arresting these individuals, who were subsequently facing an array of charges including grand theft, conspiracy to commit a crime, probation violation, drug possession, identity theft, and possession of stolen property.
