Earlier today, a Dallas police officer, serving a capital murder warrant alongside the U.S. Marshals Task Force, was wounded during a confrontation with the suspect. The incident, which took place at a northeast Dallas apartment complex, involved exchanges of gunfire that wounded both the officer and the suspect, according to CBS News.
The incident took place around 6 a.m., and as the team began to serve the warrant and breach the door, they were met instantly with gunfire from the suspect, leading to return fire and multiple fired, as reported by WFAA.
The gunfire exchange caused one Dallas police officer to be shot in the lower leg while the suspect sustained major injuries. The officer and suspect were immediately taken to local hospitals for treatment, according to NBC DFW. The officer is believed to be in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia announced that the officer is "going to be OK, and in great spirits", as per CBS News. Additional details, including the names of the officer and suspect, are to be released on Monday.
