An accident in downtown Los Angeles earlier today, resulted in at least one death and multiple injuries. A minivan and a Metro Bus collided at 100 E 17th St, potentially the result of a police chase, according to The Los Angeles Fire Department news report.
The minivan involved could have possibly been engaged in a pursuit by police due to an armed suspect onboard. The incident occurred near an East 17th Street and Los Angeles Street bus station, where the collision resulted in five civilian adults ended up injured, as per KTLA.
One individual in the minivan was declared dead at the site of the accident, while three others were transported to a local hospital in uncertain condition. A sole person was briefly entrapped within the minivan following the accident. The Metro Bus driver declined medical assistance, as stated on the LAFD report.
In pursuit for a weapon potentially connected with a suspect, the 10 Freeway was temporarily closed by Main Street. While it has since been reopened, it's ambiguous if any arrests have been made or if a weapon has been found. At present, details regarding detentions or suspects are scarce. The LAPD Central Traffic Division's case (Incident #859) and the Medical Examiner are conducting a joint investigation.
