Yesterday, a substantial fire broke out in three downtown Los Angeles businesses, summoning over 100 fire personnel for immediate assistance. Thick smoke was detected billowing from a commercial building situated amongst others. The well-organized fire personnel successfully contained the fire within 33 minutes, according to The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) report.
The primary area of damage included 213 E 12th Street and its two adjacent businesses, integrated in the 150' x 75' row of single-story commercial structures. However, an update from LAFD indicates that a total of eight businesses on the block eventually sustained smoke damage due to the scale of the fire. It was fortunate there were no reported injuries among civilians or firefighters during fire control efforts.
During suppression of the fire and consequent investigation and hazard mitigation stages, a sudden accident caused a firefighter to endure non-life-threatening blunt force trauma to his arm. As dictated by procedure, he was swiftly transported to a local hospital for urgent care, as per additional LAFD update.
The fire's cause remains the focus of an active investigation.
