Paul Kessler, a 69-year-old Jewish man, died following an altercation at a pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian demonstration in Thousand Oaks. The suspect, Loay Abdelfattah Alnaji (DOB 05/06/73), has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and battery causing serious bodily injury. Additional allegations state that Alnaji personally inflicted severe injury on Kessler as reported by the Ventura County District Attorney
An elderly Kessler, it has been reported, was in a physical confrontation during the event on November 5, leading to a fall that injured his head. His resulting death spurred an investigation by the Ventura County Sheriff's Office after a post-mortem examination on November 6, revealed a blunt force head injury and categorized Kessler's death as homicide. According to Hoodline, sources like ABC7 suggest that Kessler could possibly have been attacked by pro-Palestinian protestors using a megaphone.
The incident's occurrence has stirred apprehension within the local Jewish community, which has witnessed a series of anti-Semitic incidents this year. The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles conveyed its profound sorrow on the news, indicating it to be the fourth significant anti-Semitic attack in the city in 2023 alone.
In a joint news conference by the Ventura County District Attorney and Ventura County Sheriff officials earlier today, the Sheriff's Office asked for public assistance to aid its investigation. It urges anyone with relevant information or witnesses to contact Detective Stump at (805) 384-4745 or anonymously provide information through Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477). The possibility of submitting digital evidence anonymously is also available online.
