A man's need for speed became his fast track to lockup this Friday night in Russell. While cruising at a brisk 62 MPH on Blandford Rd, he caught the attentive eye of law enforcement, leading to a traffic stop that would reveal much more than a penchant for pedal-pushing. The Russell Police Department disclosed in a Facebook post that the driver was wanted on an arrest warrant out of Vernon, Connecticut.
An ordinary traffic stop spiraled into a bout with the law for the unsuspecting speedster around 8:45 p.m. The moment an officer, doing a regular radar check, trapped him zooming past the speed limit, the individual's personal details unearthed a troubling past. He faced serious charges, including assault in the 3rd degree and strangulation in the 2nd degree.
The officers transitioned from issuing a speeding ticket to executing a custodial takeover. The suspect was processed swiftly and securely escorted to the secure confines of the Hampden County House of Corrections, where he was held, pending his predicament to be unfolded at Westfield District Court the following morning.
