
Last Sunday, Ray Shillito Jr. was killed in a car accident on RM 2243 in Leander, Texas. The Leander Police Department's (LPD) media release stated that their office responded to a report of a rollover collision at around 11:50 a.m. in the 8600 block of RM 2243.
Preliminary investigations detailed a westbound Ford Excursion that had experienced a mechanical failure, forcing it to cross the center lane divider unexpectedly and collide head-on with an eastbound Chevrolet Silverado. The Chevy, being driven by Ray Shillito, 51, from Austin, Texas, proceeded to roll off the highway due to the collision. No charges have been filed against the Ford driver, who stayed on the scene and cooperated with law enforcement.
Shillito was a respected member of the Austin community and worked with the Development Services Department's Code Compliance Team for the City of Austin. He had recently retired from the Austin Police Department furthering to dedicate his life service to his community.
The LPD Collision Reconstruction Team is leading the ongoing investigation into the fatal accident. Lieutenant Ben Girdler has been appointed as the point of contact for media inquiries by LPD, with no additional details currently available.
