On Thursday evening, a fatal accident occurred in University City when a dirt bike collided with an SUV. While traveling at high speed on a dark stretch of Governor Drive without lights, the 31-year-old rider was struck as reported by the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Operating a 2018 KTM dirt bike, the rider navigated the dark conditions as a 66-year-old woman in a silver 2005 Lexus SUV proceeded west on Governor Drive. Unaware of the eastbound dirt bike, she turned left onto Erlanger Street, resulting in a catastrophic collision. The impact resulted in the rider being thrown from the bike and suffering fatal injuries. He later succumbed at a local hospital as revealed by FOX 5 San Diego.

Officer Robert Heims illustrated the incident, stating that "headed east down a dark stretch of Governor Drive" was the motorcycle rider, who seemed to be "going at a high rate of speed." This point was emphasized in another San Diego Union-Tribune report, which marked the time of the accident at around 8:15 p.m., following the left turn of the Lexus onto Governor Drive.

With alcohol ruled out as a cause of the accident, the case has been referred to the San Diego Police Department's Traffic Division for further investigation.
