A 23-month-old child found dead with lethal levels of fentanyl in his system, has resulted in the arrest of mother Sophia Gastelum-Vera, 26, on murder charges by the Fremont Police Department.
Fremont PD attended to the unresponsive child on October 18 at a local Emergency Room. The investigation that followed disclosed an unsettling truth: the child was exposed to fentanyl unknowingly in the room he was sharing with his mother.
Lab tests revealed fentanyl presence in items from the residence, and toxicology results confirmed the drug's fatal levels in the child's system, as per the Fremont Police Department.
