In a scandal rocking a Texas school district, a member of the Godley ISD council involved in shaping the sex education curriculum has been ousted after her past as a convicted prostitute came to light. Ashley Ketcherside, found to be moonlighting as an escort named Lola Brea, was axed from her duties as a disturbing oversight in employee vetting was exposed, as reported by FOX 4 News.
While Ketcherside's current gig as an escort stands on legal ground in Texas, her prior convictions in 2012 and 2016 have stirred discomfort among parents and faculty alike. "We had no idea what was going on in her personal life. She was always very friendly and personable," Godley ISD School Board trustee Kayla Lain remarked, pointing to a potential lapse in the district's screening processes. Ketcherside, who also served on committees including the Parent Teacher Organization and oversaw a local cheerleading group, seemed like a friendly face in the community before the shocking discovery, per FOX 4 News.
The unease was initiated by skepticism surrounding the veracity of Ketcherside's claimed business holdings. As families dug deeper, a sordid history unfurled, with Ketcherside's double life under the alias Lola Brea bringing about ethical dilemmas for her role on the School Health Advisory Council. "I don’t see any community wanting that to be the standard for their school district," expressed Mary Lowe of Families Engaged for Effective Education, starkly highlighting the gap between Ketcherside's past deeds and the role model expectations of educators, BNN noted.
In the district's defense, a spokesperson cited that school board appointments are standard, possibly missing the finer details of Ketcherside's past because of procedural adherence, not scrutiny. "We can do better, and we must do better," urged Lowe, whose nonprofit initially brought the revelations to the school board's attention. Clearly, Kayla Lain and her parents agree, as they turned detectives by connecting Ketcherside's email to her escort persona, eventually unmasking the "friendly and personable" council member's unsuitable backstory for a school sex educator position, per FOX 4 News.
