Georgetown man Augustine Dafe Ikolo, aged 44, was found guilty of sexual assault on Friday and faces a maximum of 20 years in prison according to CBS Austin. Concurrently, Bobby Joe McConnell, 58, also from Georgetown, received the maximum sentence for similar crimes as reported by WMBF News.
Details of the Ikolo case disclosed that the victim met Ikolo on a dating app and visited his residence under the pretense of sampling his cooking. The visit, unfortunately, took a violent turn, with Ikolo assaulting the victim repeatedly. The victim managed to escape after defending herself physically. Ikolo then allegedly pursued a harassment campaign against the victim, which ultimately led her to the Georgetown Police Department and Ikolo's consequent arrest on January 27, 2021.
McConnell's case unfolded simultaneously, where he pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct and abusing a vulnerable adult. He received a maximum sentence of 10 years for the former and five years for the latter, with the sentences running concurrently. In addition, McConnell is now registered as a sex offender and is barred from making contact with his victim or the victim's family.
In response to these cases, Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick maintained to CBS Austin, “I am pleased with the jury’s verdict in this case, which sends the message that sexual assault will not be tolerated in Williamson County,”....“I commend the survivor for her courage and cooperation throughout the investigation and trial in bringing Ikolo to justice. My office will continue to protect the citizens of Williamson County from sexual predators, and we will seek the appropriate punishment for Ikolo at his sentencing to ensure he is held accountable for this crime.”
