Chaos erupted in the town of North Adams, Massachusetts, when a man, now under arrest, turned a tavern brawl into a scene straight out of a Wild West movie by firing a gun into the air. The North Adams Police Department descended upon the State Street Tavern with sirens and flashing lights after a call concerning a large fight broke into the early hours of Thursday morning as per WWLP.
The situation intensified when police were informed en route that a man brandishing a firearm was part of the commotion. North Adams police would learn upon arrival that the suspect had loosed a round skyward amidst the altercation; however, the identity of this individual has been kept under wraps for the moment. The suspect is currently locked up on a hefty $50,000 cash bail, waiting for his moment in the Northern Berkshire District Court to face the music for multiple firearm-related charges, including a charge for shooting a gun within a perilous proximity of 500 feet from a budding establishment as reported by The Berkshire Eagle.
In the following investigation, the North Adams Police Department's Detective Unit also took center stage, seizing the suspect's vehicle as a prelude to a warranted search that would later reveal a loaded Ruger.22 caliber handgun, which was likely the instrument that night's unsettling serenade.
The gun owner now faces grave accusations: not only of discharging a firearm perilously close to a structure meant for revelry and respite but also for wielding and storing his loaded firearm without the requisite licenses, and this not being his maiden voyage through the turbulent waters of firearm infractions, for he has sailed these waters twice before with a cargo hold of prior violent or drug-related crimes as recounted in the WWLP's report.
