Residents of Hayward, California, were jarred by the grotesque stabbing of 51-year-old Parwiz Assar near Lance Way and Tucker Street on October 8. The Hayward Police Department has since arrested and charged two suspects in relation to the crime.

Samim Azizi, a 21-year-old from Washington state was arrested in Seattle on October 31. Razma Mohammad-Ibrahim, 35, was arrested in Hayward on November 15. It has allegedly emerged throughout this investigation that these suspects shared an illicit relationship, possibly motivated by the prospect of acquiring assets from the victim, Mohammad-Ibrahim's estranged spouse.

Razma Mohammad-Ibrahim was married to the victim for over a decade, with both sharing children and a home, despite ongoing "marital problems." In 2022, however, Razma allegedly began an illicit affair with Azizi. Investigators believe that the two plotted the murder of Parwiz Assar to lay claim to remnants of "family assets," according to the Hayward Police Department.

Acting Chief Bryan Matthews of the Hayward Police Department praised the investigators' diligent work and interdepartmental collaboration. He highlighted the role of the U.S. Marshals Service, the Renton Police Department, the Washington State Crime Lab, and the Washington State Department of Corrections in securing the arrests. While the case remains wide open, there is hope for justice for the family and loved ones of the late Parwiz Assar.
