Law enforcement reeled in a big fish yesterday as the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section and a U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force nabbed a man accused of a deadly shooting in New Hampshire. Giovanne Morris, 31, found out the hard way that there's no escaping justice when he was arrested in Malden after a daring but futile escape attempt, according to an official report from the Massachusetts State Police website.
The arrest went down at 244 Kennedy Drive, where Morris made a break for it, literally leaping off his balcony to try and slide into the neighboring one. The officers had already cordoned off the area and were quick to coax him back to fold and promptly take him into custody.
Details from the MSP News release paint the scene of a tense capture, as officers had to quickly shift gears to secure Morris after his unexpected jump. He eventually complied with their orders, ending a dance with danger that could have gone a whole lot worse. Transport back to the barracks sealed his fate, where he faced booking as a fugitive from a charge that has serious weight behind it—the possession of a dangerous weapon with the accusation of it being used to claim life—still under active investigation.
Manchester, New Hampshire, lost Carlos Rodriguez, 42, in the early morning hours of November 18, and now Morris will have to squarely face the music for his alleged role in the incident after being arraigned in Malden District Court. Translated from law enforcement lingo, the rendition process will soon shuttle him back to New Hampshire, where he'll answer the grim charges laid before him, officials confirmed.
