On the early morning of Friday, November 3, a call from an Escondido mobile home complex set off a series of events resulting in the death of Douglas Quinn, a man from Indiana. This occurrence is outlined in the City of San Diego report that documents the escalation from a simple disturbance call to a lethal confrontation with Escondido Police officers.

The official report states that the Escondido Police responded to a call made in reference to an unfamiliar man reported to be sleeping on a mobile home's porch . Later, the man, identified as 48-year-old Douglas Quinn, was observed pushing a blue motorcycle around in the complex.

Patrol officers Michael Statti and Anthony Lay approached Quinn and after a short discussion, identified that he had an outstanding felony warrant for a parole violation from Indiana. As officers moved to detain him, Quinn attempted to escape and reached for his waistband, extracting and firing a gun at the officers. Officers returned fire, hitting Quinn multiple times. Quinn kept pointing his gun at the officers, prompting additional gunfire. Despite the officers' attempts at CPR, Quinn later died from his injuries at a local hospital.

In response to this incident, law enforcement is conducting respective investigations. As Hoodline specifies, the San Diego Police Homicide Unit has been summoned to investigate the matter, with the San Diego County District Attorney's Office, Escondido Police, Federal Bureau of Investigations, and the United States Attorney's Office all expected to review the case to determine whether the officers are criminally accountable for their actions.
