Scott Jameson, a New England magician known for his whimsical performances for children, has confessed to heinous crimes behind the curtains—child pornography offenses that have shocked the community he once entertained. The 46-year-old illusionist pleaded guilty in federal court in Boston to engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign country and transporting child pornography, according to a statement from the U.S. Attorney's Office.
Jameson returned to the States in October. Investigators found a video, created on his latest trip overseas, exposing the private parts of a young boy between the ages of 5 and 7. During an interrogation, the magician admitted his 20-year career was a front for his lurid pursuits, often performing for children as young as kindergarten age, according to the federal authorities.
The charges brought against Jameson carry grave potential consequences, including up to 30 years behind bars for engaging in illicit sexual conduct in foreign places and up to 20 years for the transportation of child pornography. In his confession, the magician relinquished the last of his deceits, admitting to creating the video and transferring it from his camera to a hard drive that he brought back with him.
Scheduled for sentencing on March 7, 2024, Judge Richard G. Stearns of the U.S. District Court will determine Jameson's fate based on the Sentencing Guidelines and statutes governing criminal sentences. The case serves as a piercing reminder of the crucial mission of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative aimed at the scourge of child sexual exploitation.
