On August 5, a hit-and-run incident occurred in Los Angeles, leaving a female pedestrian severely injured. The event took place on Figueroa Street at 82nd Street. The pedestrian was hit by a dark-colored sedan, whose driver then promptly fled the scene as reported by the Los Angeles Police Department.
According to the witness accounts, the driver temporarily exited the vehicle, seemingly to evaluate the situation, before finally getting back in and speeding away. In response, emergency workers quickly arrived on the scene to provide medical attention and transfer the victim to a nearby hospital.
Assistance in solving hit-and-run cases such as this is encouraged through the Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund, a part of the 2015 amendment to the Los Angeles Administrative Code. The city council offers up to a $25,000 reward for information directly leading to the identification, apprehension, conviction, or resolution of such cases.
Tipsters play an important role in bringing justice to the community, guiding law enforcement to crucial information that could identify the culprit. Avenues to provide information anonymously include the LA Regional Crime Stoppers and the LAPD's anonymous web tip service on their website, phone hotlines, and the "P3 Tips" mobile application.
