A person was found lying unresponsive on the ground near the intersection of Puente Avenue and Badillo Street in Baldwin Park early Tuesday morning, and Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel pronounced the individual deceased at the scene. Baldwin Park police said the death appears to be from natural causes and urged commuters to avoid the area and use alternate routes while officers remained on scene.
According to the Baldwin Park Police Department, officers and fire personnel responded after a 911 call reported the medical emergency. Per Baldwin Park News Online, the call came in at approximately 5:53 a.m. Tuesday, and paramedics pronounced the person dead roughly 10 minutes after their arrival. Police have not released the identity of the deceased.
A Major Commute Corridor Shut Down

The intersection of Puente Avenue and Badillo Street is designated a primary municipal gateway and major arterial route under the East San Gabriel Valley Area Plan, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Regional Planning. Both Badillo Street and the stretch of Puente Avenue between Ramona Boulevard and Badillo Street are also designated heavy truck routes for commercial vehicles over three tons, per city traffic regulations, meaning the morning closure likely rippled beyond typical car traffic and into regional freight movement.
Baldwin Park itself is a densely packed city, with roughly 69,244 residents squeezed into 6.6 square miles for a population density exceeding 10,400 people per square mile, according to Census Reporter figures. That density means a single blocked intersection can back up traffic across a wide swath of the surrounding San Gabriel Valley neighborhood.
Why the Cause Is Still Preliminary
Baldwin Park police described the death as appearing to stem from natural causes, but that determination remains preliminary. Under Los Angeles County protocol, the Department of Medical Examiner investigates roughly 10,000 deaths a year across the county's 88 cities, and any unattended death in a public space requires scene examination, medical evaluation, and toxicology screening before a cause of death can be legally certified, according to a report from American Mortuary Coolers. The decedent's identity, exact cause of death, and whether an underlying medical condition played a role remain open questions pending that formal review.

The Baldwin Park Police Department, led by Chief Robert A. Lopez, operates a Patrol Bureau split into two platoons working 12.5-hour shifts to provide round-the-clock coverage across the city.
Tuesday's incident adds to a string of recent high-visibility police actions in Baldwin Park.
