
Unauthorized school entry in Lowell, Massachusetts, has left parents and educators on high alert. CBS Boston reports that three individuals tried to infiltrate the sanctuaries of learning at Moody and Shaughnessy Elementary Schools. According to the district, no entry is allowed without the proper ID and a legitimate reason.
Diana Brazil, who told CBS Boston, "I just noticed that there was a cop car out front with their lights on and I was like, 'Oh, that's kind of odd,' but not that odd because there's been a lot of strange activity in the last couple of months." The incident has not only caught the attention of local enforcement but also the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
NBC Boston details the district's measures to maintain its fortress of education, with all buildings securely locked and visitors monitored clinically via video surveillance doorbells. The protocols were enshrined following alerts about similar incidents across the state, resulting in a heightened state of vigilance.
Lowell Police. Deputy Supt. Mark LeBlanc imparted to WCVB, "The safety and security of our students and school faculty is of the utmost importance to the Lowell Police Department."
Exemplified by Vannen Prio, who has two girls in Lowell Elementary Schools, teaching his kids the fundamentals of safety, "Stay away, as soon as you see a person walking towards you, bust a U-turn, and go home, we scream, call out mom and dad or anyone else you see that's an adult," as told to CBS Boston.
