The city of Long Beach eagerly awaits the return of its beloved Daisy Lane Parade and Night of Holiday Entertainment this December. Dating back to 1953, this event has become a cherished tradition, sparking unity and holiday spirit among the residents.
Slated to occur on December 9 and 10, the Daisy Lane Parade showcases festive performances, decorations, and community gatherings. Mayor Rex Richardson warmly invites everyone to partake in the magic of this event, labeling it as a tradition fostering community spirit.
The Daisy Lane Parade was initially the idea of Gertrude Whittle, who collaborated with the Long Beach City Council and Council of Churches on a Christmas Village and nativity scene along Daisy Avenue's median. This initiative attracted many nearby residents and has significantly grown over the years. Current hosts of the parade include the City, Seventh Council District, and the Wrigley Area Neighborhood Alliance, as well as Maria Norvell, fondly known as the "Mother of Christmas Tree Lane" for her continuous contributions to the occasion.
The parade will commence at 5 p.m. at Daisy Avenue and West Burnett Street, loop around the median and Pacific Coast Highway, and will be concluding near West Hill Street and Maine Avenue around 7 p.m. For detailed information, residents can refer to the complete parade route. Starting at 7 p.m., the night of holiday entertainment will offer impressive performances.
“The joy of the holiday season is meant to be shared," asserts Councilmember Roberto Uranga, appreciating the parade's role in offering such a platform for almost 70 years. Uranga invites the city's residents to continue enjoying this tradition.
