Redwood City Police Department ensnared a man who believed he would have an illicit rendezvous with a minor. Redwood City resident Pouya Asrar, 37, is facing felony charges after attempting to meet a 17-year-old girl for sexual purposes authorities detailed.
Asrar, who worked alongside the teen at Mathnasium—a local math tutoring center—ignited a text conversation that spiraled into sexually explicit territory. Despite being informed of the girl's age, the suspect pursued the communication, which turned lewd. The scene was set: a meetup at 1073 El Camino Real, where Asrar anticipated an encounter with the minor. Instead, he stumbled into the arms of the law.
The arrest made by Redwood City Police Department detectives on Monday followed an investigation sparked by the victim's quick action to report Asrar's advances. Kitted out with condoms and intentions laid bare, Asrar was bagged by the cops. "The messages became lewd and sexual in nature," detailed their exchanges in a press release from RCPD.
Upon arrest, the RCPD conducted a search of Asrar's residence, hopeful to unearth further evidence to bolster the case against him. Asrar now faces charges under California Penal Codes 288.3 and 288.4, both felony offenses tied directly to his dealings with the 17-year-old. "Without the victim’s assistance, we wouldn’t have known that this predator was in our city," the Investigations Division Commander, Lieutenant Nick Perna said via the Redwood City Police Department report.
The RCPD remains vigilant, now probing the possibility that Asrar may have other victims who have yet to come forward. Officials urge anyone to reach out to the Redwood City Police Department at 650-780-7100 with any insights or anonymously tip off at 650-780-7110.
