December 5, 2021, marked an unfortunate event on the University of New Hampshire campus when sophomore history major Vincenzo Lirosi tragically lost his life following an unhealthy drinking spree and violence. Two years later, his mother has come forward, involved in a lawsuit against the implicated fraternity and the bar, alleging neglect and fraternity misconduct that led to her son's untimely demise.
Robin Lirosi has initiated a wrongful death lawsuit against Scorpion's Bar & Grill, the Sigma Chi fraternity, its national association, and some individual fraternity members as reported by Boston.com. This step exemplifies her unwavering determination to hold accountable the parties implicated in her son's demise and to shed light on potential dangers associated with fraternity life.
As per the filed lawsuit, Lirosi allegedly consumed 17 alcoholic drinks at Scorpion's Bar & Grill on the fateful night. The lawsuit rebukes the bar for serving him "so continuously and excessively" that it more than likely fostered a risk of fatal consequences. His subsequent visit to the Sigma Chi fraternity party further escalated violent disputes under the influence of alcohol as per WMUR.
The attorney representing Lirosi’s family, Leah Cole Durst, described an assault that transpired at the Sigma Chi party. It has been alleged that Lirosi was "attacked by several brothers, chased, dragged out of the house, thrown on the ground, punched repeatedly, and kicked while he was down" according to WMUR. This resulted in Lirosi, left injured and disoriented, making his way alone into a nearby forest, abandoned by fraternity brothers.
Following this tragic incident, there is a dreadful aftermath. Lirosi's body was later discovered in a marshy area off Coe Drive in Durham. His death was officially registered as an accident, but the unveiling of the incident through the lawsuit tells a disturbing story as reported by WMUR.
Sigma Chi fraternity, which is temporarily suspended, has so far not responded promptly to the phone messages, and Scorpion's Bar & Grill has similarly been unresponsive to messages on their Facebook page according to Boston.com. This situation has raised relevant concerns about fraternity accountability and the safe environments they are obligated to maintain.
