New Hampshire's late-night quiet was shattered when Zachary William Bunker, a 40-year-old from the quaint town of Gilford, decided to flout the rules of the road and steer his vehicle into oncoming traffic on I-93, NBC Boston reports. State troopers swiftly intervened, capturing Bunker after he was spotted hurtling in the wrong direction between Northfield and Canterbury.
The incident, which occurred just before the clock struck twelve on Friday, sparked panic as police positioned themselves to avert what could have been a catastrophic collision, with Bunker's misguided journey causing alarm among other drivers, some of whom reported the erratic southbound driver in the northbound lanes, according to WBZ NewsRadio, and a state trooper, strategically placing his vehicle, was able to stop Bunker around a blind bend before any blood was spilled on the asphalt.
Now facing a slew of charges, including reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, driving while intoxicated, and reckless driving, Bunker's brush with the law has landed him an appointment with the inside of a courtroom; per NBC Boston, the Merrimack Superior Court date is penciled in for December 28.
Bunker has secured temporary freedom, with reports indicating that he is currently out on bail, waiting as the wheels of justice slowly grind towards a resolution of his case.
